Samsung has rolled out another official update, Android 4.1.2 XXEMC3 Jelly Bean, for its third generation Galaxy S smartphone with model number I9300. The new official build is currently available in Nordic counties but Galaxy S3 users from supported regions can also install the update.

Per-requisites
1) Install USB Drivers for Samsung Galaxy S3 on the computer to connect the Android device with the computer.
2) Enable USB Debugging Mode on the phone to connect it with the computer and use Android SDK with it. [Press Menu>> Settings>> Applications. From there navigate and click on Development option and ensure the USB Debugging Mode is turned on.]  
3) Create a backup of all data of the Galaxy S3. If the device is having a custom recovery such as ClockworkMod/TWRP installed already then backup all the data using the same since it create a complete image of the existing tablet set up.
4) The battery of the phone should have charge above 80 per cent.
5) The device should be factory unlocked and not locked to a particular carrier.
6) The phone will lose installed custom ROM with the installation of official firmware. In addition to that, it will lose custom recovery such as ClockworkMod/TWRP which will be replace by stock recovery.
7) The device will no longer belong to a rooted version with the installation of official firmware.
8) The Android 4.1.2 XXEMC3 Jelly Bean works only on Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 and flashing this on incorrect variants might brick the device. Therefore, verify the model number of the device by navigating to Settings>> About Phone.  
Steps to install Android 4.1.2 XXEMC3 Jelly Bean on Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300
1) Download Android 4.1.2 I9300XXEMC3 Jelly Bean for Samsung Galaxy S3 to the computer. Extract the firmware zip file to get a .tar.md5 file with some other filers    
2) Download Odin 3.07 and extract the zip to get Odin3 v3.07.exe along with a few other files
3) Switch off the phone and then enter into Download Mode. Press and hold the Volume Down, Home and Power buttons together. A warning screen will appear after which press the Volume Up button to enter Download Mode
[Note: Users may have to press Volume Up to enter Download Mode in green Robot screen.]    
4) Run Odin3 v3.07.exe as an Administrator
5) Connect the Galaxy S3 to the computer using USB cable while it is in Download Mode. A message saying 'Added' will appear under Odin's message box. If the message does not show, then try another USB port, one located at the back of the computer. In case that too does not work, then reinstall the driver. When the device is connected to the computer successfully, the COM port with a number in yellow should be seen
6) Select these files in Odin, extracted from the I9300XXEMC3 folder, to install on the phone
a) Click the PDA button and select the file with .tar or .md5 appearing in its name
b) Click the Phone button and select the file with Modem in its name
c) Click the CSC button and select the file with CSC in its name
d) Click the PIT button and select the .pit file
[Note: Ignore the last there steps in case such files are not found.]
7) Verify that Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options are selected in Odin window. As for Re-Partition, select the option if a .pit file is used
8) Double check everything and finally click the Start button in Odin to begin the installation
9) After the flashing is completed, the phone will restart automatically and soon a PASS message with green background will appear in the extreme left box at the top of Odin. Now safely unplug the USB cable from the phone to disconnect it from the computer
Android 4.1.2 XXEMC3 Jelly Bean official firmware should now be installed and running on Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300. Navigate to Settings>> About Phone to verify the software version of the device.

Steps to root Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 on Android 4.1.2 XXEMC3 Jelly Bean
1) Download CF-Auto-Root file for Samsung Galaxy S3 to the computer. Extract the downloaded zip to get a .tar.md5 file within it
2) Download Odin 3.07. Then extract the zip to get Odin3 v3.07.exe along with few other files
3) Switch off the Galaxy S3 and boot the device into Download Mode. Press and hold the Volume Down, Home and Power buttons together. A warning screen will appear after which press the Volume Up button to enter Download Mode
4) Run Odin3 v3.07.exe on the computer
5) Plug in the USB cable to the Galaxy S3 to connect it with the computer while it is in the Download Mode. A message saying 'Added' will appear under Odin's message box. If the message does not show, then try another USB port, one located at the back of the computer. In case that too does not work, too then reinstall the driver. When the phone is connected to the computer successfully, the COM port with a number in yellow should also appear
6) In Odin, click the PDA button and select the CF-Auto-Root-mo-moxx-gti9300.tar.md5 file
7) Ensure that the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options are selected in Odin
8) Double check everything and click the Start button in Odin to begin the flashing
9) Once the installation process is completed, the phone will reboot automatically and soon a Pass message with green background will appear in the extreme left box at the very top of Odin. Unplug the USB cable from the device to disconnect it from the computer
Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 running on Android 4.1.2 XXEMC3 Jelly Bean firmware is rooted successfully. Users may now install any app that requires root permission.
